Teach Generosity with The Starry Giraffe
Let's face it, most kids have a hard time with sharing and being generous. My two little ones find it particularly hard to be kind and generous towards one another. As parents, it is our job to teach them the importance of these qualities and show them the way.5 Things To Help Teach Your Children Generosity:
- Teach them that giving time and attention as gifts can be even more valuable than tangible things.
- Get excited when they give you handmade gifts. Make sure they know that you appreciate their effort, no matter the end product.
- Encourage your family to volunteer together and give back to the community. Show them through your own actions what it looks like to be generous.
- Teach them to donate clothes, toys, and other items to children in need rather than hold onto them.
- Introduce random acts of kindness. Show them that they can do nice things for people at any time, and not just because someone tells them to.

About The Starry Giraffe
In the tradition of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, a generous giraffe gives away all of her apples to her hungry friends in this winning picture book that begs to be read aloud. Poor starry giraffe: every time she reaches for a yummy red apple from a tall tree, one of her hungry friends comes along and the generous giraffe shares the treat. Just when you think she has nothing left to eat for herself, a turn of the page shows otherwise.

I love the concept. And I like giraffes.
It is a great way to teach them
As to generosity. I prefer to teach by example.
Teach generosity by example!!!
Exactly! A great way
So cute!
Thank you, I agree!
My Sophia would LOVE this book
It is a really cute book. He did a great job writing it in a way that kids can identify
Great sites. Awesome giraffe !!
Thanks, isn’t he cute
My 20 month old grandson loves books. I know he will love this book and giraffe.
That is a great age to start laying the seeds about generosity!
I teach generosity by showing and telling.
Great job!
I have always taught my children to give what they can and share as well
That is a good lesson to teach them
I think kids learn by example. When it’s time to clean out old clothes and toys, my kids are right there helping because they want to help the people in need. When they were very little and I was trying to wean them from the bottle, I told them people were coming to collect all the bottles and pacifiers, and they were so sweet, collecting them all for the babies that didn’t have bottles….how adorable was that, they were just babies themselves….I love them to pieces!! 🙂
How sweet that they are already thinking about others
My mom always told me…give people their flowers while they are living, they wont care when they are dead. That always stuck with me and I try to teach my kids with the same motto.
What a great saying! I will have to remember that one
I think modeling is a great start to teaching generosity. Then, praise your children every time you see them showing acts of generosity. Be specific and enthusiastically explain how what he/she just did was generous.
Great ideas, praise and enthusiasm is definitely a good tip when working with little kids
I remind my children and show them by example
I teach by example and then let them know how proud we are of them
Love this to help show my grandkids the act of giving can be the best gift!
It is hard to teach generosity but I try by example.
I always make my 4 kids share their snacks when we are out
